Just 13 square kilometers and almost 2,000 people (and on one road), the volcanic Dutch Caribbean island of Saba – a 90-minute ferry ride from Sint Maarten – is the kind of place you go when you need a break. There’s not much else to do besides hike through the rainforest, explore tide pools, dive for rainbow coral, or drink homemade spiced rum—just don’t plan on doing it on the beach. Saba has only one: the black-sand “lost beach” at Well’s Bay, which disappears with the waves. Make a bed in this pint-sized Eden at Haiku House, a shockingly affordable tree-like private villa with three bedrooms, sun-bleached wooden decks and vertiginous treetops.
